2010 USAPA Mid-South Regional Pickleball Tournament



The 2nd Annual USA Pickleball Association Mid-South Regional Pickleball Tournament will take place June 4-6, 2010 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the ExerFit (formerly CAP Elite) Gymnasium. Pickleball players from the Mid-South Region (Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee) and beyond will participate in this tournament. Please note that you do not have to be a resident of the Mid-South region in order to participate in this tournament; players from any area of the country are welcome and encouraged to come and participate in this event.

This year's tournament has been designated as a Tier 3 USA Pickleball Association sanctioned event. This means more "tournament points" can be earned by medaling in this year's tournament. Points will be awarded and posted on the USAPA site as follows: 1st Place: 600 pts, 2nd Place: 300 pts, 3rd Place: 150 pts. The more successful this tournaments is, the higher “Tier rating” it will receive and the tournament winners will also be awarded more points.

Please Note: You DO NOT need to be a USAPA member to play in this tournament; however, you do need to be a member for your rating to be listed on the USAPA website.

The production of this event is a joint effort by the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation, the Louisiana Senior Olympic Games, USA Pickleball Association, and BREC (East Baton Rouge Parish Park & Recreation Commission); this group of community stakeholders is collaboratively known as the Mid-South Regional Pickleball Tournament Committee.


This event is presented as a part of the 2010 Louisiana Governor’s Games. Thank you to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Mr. Rudy Macklin for their assistance in making this event a reality.

Adult registration costs: $25 registration includes one event (singles, doubles, or mixed doubles) + $5 for each additional event; t-shirt included in registration

Junior registration costs: $15 registration includes one event (singles, doubles, or mixed doubles) + $5 for each additional event; t-shirt included in registration

Social Cost: Free for USAPA Members, $5 for non-USAPA participants

Tournament Information and Rules:

The tournament will be scheduled as such:
- Registration/Check-In will begin at 7:30 AM Friday at the Exerfit Gym
- Announcements will be made at 8:10 AM each day (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Play starts at 8:30 AM each day (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

There will be a 5 minute warm-up period before each match, a 2 minute break between games and two 1-minute timeouts per game.

Players will forfeit their match if they do not report to their court within a 5 minute time frame of being called to their court.

Awards will take place after the conclusion of play in each division (men's double, women's doubles, mixed doubles).

The court surface in the Exerfit facility is a wood gym floor.

The official ball for this year's tournament has not yet been determined.

Tournament Social:
A pre-tournament social will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 6:30 pm at BREC Headquarters. Admittance to the social is NOT included in your tournament registration. Dinner and refreshments will be served and there will also be door prizes. Dress for this event is casual and shorts are more than ok. Tournament participants will also be able to check-in for the tournament, receive their tournament t-shirts and examine the tournament brackets.

The pre-tournament social is free to all USAPA members; non-USAPA participants in the tournament have to pay $5 to enter. Anyone who wishes to come to the social can include this $5 charge in their tournament registration or they can pay at the door. This event is open to all including any spouses or anyone not participating in the tournament. All proceeds help to defray the cost of the social and the tournament. An announcement to award the first Mid-South Region Achievement Award will also take place at this social so we encourage everyone to take part.

RV Information:
A limited number of spots are available on the Jimmy Swaggert Ministries Complex across Bluebonnet Blvd. from the tournament site. RV Spots are $16.95 per night. Please note that due to the close proximity to their schools Day Care facility, no pets, alcohol, or loud music is permitted. To make a reservation, please call Mrs. Dorothy Cook at 225.768.3501.
