The National Bowling Association Southern Regional Tournament
November 19-22, 2009
The National Bowling Association, also known as TNBA, hosted their 30th Annual Southern Regional Bowling Tournament in Baton Rouge for the first time since 2001 over the weekend of November 19-22. 500 teams encompassing 2,000 bowlers participated in four days of tournament play. Singles, doubles and team competitions took place at all three of our local bowling properties, Don Carter’s, Metro Bowl and Circle Bowl. TNBA members from Texas to Missouri to Florida and all points in-between traveled into Baton Rouge for this annual event. This is TNBA’s second regional tournament in Baton Rouge this year; in April, the Southern Regional Junior Championship was held at Don Carter’s, which brought over 200 youth bowlers into our community.

TNBA is one of the major governing bodies for amateur bowling in the United States. Founded in 1939 by African Americans, and open to all, TNBA is committed to the principles of Sportsmanship, Fellowship and Friendship within its ranks and throughout the world of bowling. TNBA’s 30,000 adult members, 7,500 junior members, 500 sanctioned leagues and 110+ Senates and Affiliates comprise a network of men and women striving for the ultimate prize in bowling: The Perfect Game.

Special thanks to our local TNBA senate and bowling contacts, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Major for securing this event here in Baton Rouge. Local sponsors of the Southern Regional Tournament include the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino and Piccadilly Restaurants - thank you for your support!
Lastly thank you to our local bowling proprietors, Don Carter’s and Malco Bowling, for hosting yet another bowling event here in Baton Rouge in 2009. Over the course of 2009, our city has hosted 7 major tournaments bringing in over 5,700 bowlers to the Capital Area.
